How to bathe a white poodle

I'm not even sure how to begin! A blog about my dogs and life? Well the crap has hit the fan my friends and we haven't even met yet.
First official poodle post is plain and simple.
"You think you know, but you have no idea"
I'm not sure if that's an official quote from anywhere except my intelligent self, but it perfectly describes me.
My days this past month have been rough!  Today however has been especially joyful! (If you can't take my sarcasm from my blog,  we may not be able to be super friends)
I'm doing a small grooming demonstration for my great friend Jennifer Keep - a.k.a KY (Kai) her school.  She works at a school for troubled youth here in Utah. I really wanted to tell her no but, I just couldn't because she's freaking amazing & generous to the max.
So today I had to prep both of my dogs. Maserati & Mercedes.  My intention was to get them both bathed & straight for the demo tomorrow.  Did that happen?  Well... kind of ? I started Maserati in the bath at 11, because let's be real... I stayed up watching Making a Murderer until 3 am and couldn't wake up to save my life this morning.
To first get Maserati for the bath I have to pre - wash his front feet and they have to sit for a bit before bathing can actually begin. Maserati of course is a boy and with his lovely short back loves to pee on his front feet. Disgusting I know, however this is not an uncommon problem for boys.  I learned a trick at the last dog show I was at in 'how to remove urine stains' from a great professional handler.
Dreft liquid laundry detergent.  Now, this make total sense right ? It's gentle enough for new born babes yet removes the stains from their clothes!  I only use it on his feet.  I dilute it, lather not up and let it sit for about 20mins and rinse. Immediately you can see fantastic results!  Since its not a "dog shampoo" I do NOT use it on his body.
So after washing him using Quadraped yucca shampoo and a conditioner from 3 C's and the dog show. It was time to dry. Oh, best part is.. bathing only took me 90 mins!
Towel him off, let him run around like a looney to on for a min and then it's off to the grooming table and stand dryer. I make a little bed for him, with padding,  towels and then tuck him in with a blanket when I meticulously start to carefully brush his hair. 4 hours later... he's still wet.
I couldn't work anymore though!  My kids were out of school, Oliver was sick, Lily had ballet,  and London wanted to play with a friend.  So Masi had to wait. Lily went to dance, London rode her bike while I took Lydia and Oliver to the doc.
2 1/2 hours one ear infection, an anemic baby & blood tests later.. We grabbed Lily late from dance headed home ate leftovers and I contemplated the fun of life. Haha, but seriously.  Then my hubby and I went for a drive together to "talk." That's never a good sign...
So I'm skipping to the end and leaving my "talk" for another time. I brushed Masi until 1 am. He is still not finished and Mercedes smells like she was playing with pigs. Boy am I going to have fun tomorrow.
Hopefully my brain will work in the morning and the girls at the school don't judge me too harshly.  As always hug and kiss your kids & Furbabies whichever you may have. If you don't have any, then consider growing out your leg hair for company or get a stuffed animal :)
I love fun pictures so here are a few from day!

ABOUT ME

You know when you’re young, and you see something that changes your life? That was me at my first dog show when I was six, feeling the majesty of the competition. I realized how much I loved animals, and hoped to work with them some day. I grew up in a large family with just about every pet you can imagine. I connected with animals from cats, dogs and birds to even fish, lizards and snakes. I was fascinated by living creatures and wanted to study animals as much as I could. Growing up and into adulthood, I volunteered and worked with animals as much as possible. I spent a few years at a rescue shelter and loved getting to know each animal and bringing him to full health and safety. Employment included pet stores, horse stables, and grooming salons. I read literature and have mentors to learn the trade of showing dogs and how to be the best handler I can, I never stop learning. My self-motivation is something I got from my dad, who was my biggest inspiration. He was my hero — an incredible man, husband to my mother, provider to his children and role model. He encouraged me to read, study and work hard, which is why I am where I am today. It hasn’t always been easy. During my struggle with depression, I turned to the comfort of animals. My journey inspires me to help others with depression and show them just how amazing animals truly are. Now, I’m happy and feel radiant. I will continue to handle Standard Poodles and hope to teach my daughters to do the same. Dog shows can be grueling, but there is a great satisfaction in working hard to achieve a Championship. My past achievements include music awards, as I am proficient at flute. I also played water polo, and I was a speedy and accurate seamstress. DIY projects are some of my favorite hobbies, from upholstering to crafting and sewing. Otherwise, you can find me snuggling my poodles, driving my kiddos around, and attending dog shows! My goal for the future is to pass down my love and knowledge of animals to my kids and all of my friends, and with the vibrancy of my father’s life here to guide me, and my husband, four kids and two Standard Poodles, I know I can achieve what I put my mind to. ~Never stop learning~
