How not to dye your dog
I'm done showing my male Standard Poodle, so I decided to shave all his hair. I was certainly sad to see it go, However I thought I'd try my hand at giving him some color.
This is a product you definitely do not want to waste your time on. It may work for human hair but definitely not on a dogs.
Manic Panic.
I didn't want to buy the traditional dyes for dogs because I didn't want to wait for shipping. I was pretty impatient, especially when a good photographer friend of mine wanted to do a photo shoot with my boy and I had just shaved him!
So here's what I did.. but the color fades so badly it's not worth the work.
I bathed my dog and dried him thoroughly. I then applied all the different colors of dye. With a salon brush I made sure the dye went all the way to the root of the fur. I worked the dye in the patterns I wanted. I made sure to use a clean brush for each new color I used. I let the dye set on him for about 2 hours. (I have a very good boy when it comes to table work) so he just took a nap.
I rinsed the dye in cold water to help it set and when the water was running clear. I towel dried him and used my high velocity dryer to get him completely dry.
The color had already faded quite a bit more the what the company advertises. Of course I know it's for human hair and not dog though I thought it'd be somewhat close, mostly because my poodle is white.
The dye has faded considerably over the following 4 weeks and he has only had 2 baths since dyed.
I'd definitely not recommend this product on dogs even though it is a vegan based dye.
I'm looking forward to trying actual products for dogs like Opawz. It begs the question though.
If Manic Panic fades so quickly and Opawz is so permanent and is also vegan... then why don't we start using Opawz on human hair? Besides of course all the scientific reasons of why out hair, protein, and genetic make up is entirely different.
What if Opawz works better on people then Manic Panic? Just curious. .. I have black hair so I definitely can't be the one to test the theory, but I sure do want to.
Never stop learning.
